Phoenix fell in love with the violin at the tender age of 1½, and began playing at 3. He was a Finalist in the 2012 Mondavi Young Artists National Competition, is the recipient of the 2012 Davis Award from the Santa Fe Concert Association, and has received a grant from the prestigious Starling Foundation for study at the Meadowmount School of Music. He has been generously loaned a Lorenzo Ventapane violin, c.1832 by Kenneth Warren & Son, Ltd of Chicago. A native of Santa Fe, he has been featured with the Serenata de Santa Fe, the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Spotlight on Youth, and Pro Musica CHAMPS. Enjoying all venues, he appeared as the Fiddler in “Fiddler on the Roof” at age 7, and can frequently be found busking at the Farmer’s Market and various street corners around town. He studies with Carmelo de los Santos of the University of NM and Jan Sloman of the Dallas Symphony. When not playing violin, Phoenix enjoys fencing, gemology, and being in nature.
