The Boulder Symphony Orchestra changed its name and moved its home base to Boulder starting with the 2010 – 2011 concert season.
The Boulder Symphony Orchestra was originally founded in September 1992 as the Boulder Community Orchestra. It was composed of strings and woodwind players from the Boulder and Longmont areas and under the baton of Andrew P. LeVasseur, it presented two full orchestra concerts during the winter and spring of 1993.
Previously, the Boulder Symphony Orchestra was also know as the Niwot Timberline Symphony Orchestra (NTSO) or the Timberline Symphony Orchestra (TSO).
In 1995 Brian St. John won the position of Music Director and led the orchestra until 2008. In January 2006 the orchestra moved from the Louisville/Lafayette/east Boulder area to a new home in Niwot.
After conducting a search for a new conductor, Devin Patrick Hughes was selected to lead the Niwot Timberline Symphony Orchestra beginning the fall of 2008, and is currently the music director in its new form as the Boulder Symphony Orchestra.
