BOULDER, Colo. Oct. 19, 2023 — Music fans and families who enjoy live performances can join the musicians of the Boulder Symphony for a family concert at Grace Commons, 1820 15th St., in downtown Boulder, on Oct. 28 at 3:00 p.m.
Boulder Symphony’s “Curiosity Concerts,” programmed for families and children of all ages, are original shows with fun and recognizable tunes. The upcoming concert, “Perfectly Imperfect,” features an alien who has come to Earth to learn what makes our music unique. Some of the music in the program includes: “Cheap Thrills” by Sia, Symphony No. 40 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “William Tell Overture” by Gioachino Rossini, “Also sprach Zarathustra” by Richard Strauss, “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish, as as well as original music written for this production.
Boulder Symphony’s Curiosity Concerts create an interactive and educational experience that will inspire and entertain young and old alike. Before each concert begins, the audience calls out instruments for the orchestra to demonstrate. The performances use trivia, humorous characters, and enriching stories to engage, entertain, and educate the audience throughout the performance.
The Curiosity Concerts put on by Boulder Symphony are made possible thanks to the imagination of Extra Crispy Creatives, who write these original programs for young audiences to inspire a new generation of musicians. Devin Patrick Hughes, music director and conductor of the Boulder Symphony and co-founder of Extra Crispy Creatives, says:
I’m looking forward to putting on this annual family action-packed event! It is so much fun to bring together music of different styles and cultures and to get the kids involved. Participants will be guided through a tour of Earth’s music with Mozart, Snooty, and Blip from the planet Perfecta. Students will get to conduct the orchestra after learning about what makes Earth’s music the best of the galaxy and discovering how mistakes are integral to the creative process. This is a not-to-be-missed Halloween event for all families!
These concerts are in partnership with Boulder Symphony Music Academy, which offers private music lessons to aspiring musicians of all ages for any instrument, voice, and conducting.
The program is 45 minutes long and will feature the Niwot High School Mariachi Ensemble and Longmont Youth Symphony playing side by side the Boulder Symphony. There will be an instrument petting zoo for 30 minutes before and after the concert for kids to try some instruments, and costumes are encouraged!
These concerts typically sell out each year, so get your tickets today here.
