Guitarist Henry Spencer began studying music at the University of North Carolina School of the Art’s high school college preparatory program. He completed his graduate studies under a full assistantship with the University of Akron (MM ’18) and graduated cum laude from East Carolina University (BM ’15).

While in school, Henry enjoyed performances with a variety of ensembles – Baroque Chamber Groups, Zamba Yawar (Afro-Andean), ECU/UA Guitar Ensembles, University Chorale, in addition to solo concerts. Henry performed for David Russell, Sergio Assad, Jorge Caballero, Paul Galbraith, and many others in masterclasses. He values pedagogy and is interested in Suzuki certification.

Excellence in music education is an important part of Henry’s professional goals. Alongside the guitar’s classical repertoire and technique, learning Hawaiian ukulele, the ins-and-outs of electric guitar, as well as other genres, have all given Henry a sense for the elements of music. Approaching teaching with perspective and versatility, Henry teaches students technique and musicality that can be catered to any student’s interests or goals.
