
Izzy Fincher is a classical guitarist based in Colorado. Through her lyricism and passion for musical diversity, Izzy is establishing herself as a versatile performer of underrepresented, contemporary and traditional repertoire.
Izzy is currently attending CU Boulder on a full scholarship. Recently, she received the Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation’s Gerke Collegiate Award, CU Boulder’s Outstanding Junior Award and the Presser Foundation’s Undergraduate Scholar Award. This summer, she will be attending the Aspen Music Festival on a fellowship to study with Sharon Isbin. In 2018, she graduated as the valedictorian of William J. Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Izzy’s recent projects include social media coordinator for classical guitarist collective Ex-Aequo’s “Changing the Canon,” a project premiering works by Black American composers; operations manager intern at the Twisted Spruce Music Foundation, working with emerging composers to premiere new music; and Klezmer Research Assistant at CU Boulder, proofreading and transcribing Klezmer scores for computational musicology research. She is a guitar instructor at the Boulder Symphony Music Academy and on the board of directors for the Boulder Guitar Society.
At CU Boulder, Izzy is double majoring in classical guitar performance and journalism with certificates in music entrepreneurship and music theory. Her teacher is Nicolò Spera. She also studies with Adam Holzman privately and at the Brevard Summer Institute. She plays on a 2017 Steven Walter guitar.
She has performed in masterclasses for LAGQ, Marco Tamayo, Paul Galbraith, Antigoni Goni, Gohar Vardanyan and Marc Teicholz. Other mentors include Lorenzo Micheli and Matteo Mela from Solo Duo.
Izzy also works as a freelance writer. She is the managing editor for the CU Independent and also regularly contributes to the classical music blog Sharps & Flatirons. She has been published in the Guitar Foundation of America’s Soundboard magazine.
When not practicing or writing, she can be found teaching yoga, listening to audiobooks and spending time with her bunny Suki and two labradoodles, Ash and Suzannah.
